A Gamer Guide to Healthy Gaming Snacks

There has always been a stereotype of gamers when talking about what gamer food they tend to ingest: “Junk Food”. From energy drinks to soda and Hot Pockets to Sour Patch Kids, junk food has always been the king in the gaming world. Junk food might satisfy your hunger in the short term, but these snacks will not do any service to your body, brain, and overall health. Let’s use Zelda here as a analogy to better help set the stage of gamer food:

Junk Food = Calamity Ganon

OVRPWRD = Link

The OP BAR (ovrpwrd bar) = Master Sword

Healthy Snacks = Hyrule Champions

The Gaming World = Hyrule Kingdom

Now, we all know that Link (OVRPWRD) can’t defeat Calamity Ganon (Junk Food) with just the overpowered Master Sword (OP BAR) alone. He calls upon all the Hyrule Champions (Healthy Snacks) to vanquish the evil reign from Hyrule Kingdom (The Gaming World).

In OVRPWRD’s gamer guide to healthy gaming snacks we will give you some healthy alternatives to common gamer food. Providing you with which ones to “delete” and our recommendations to “level up” with.

Delete: Soda
Level Up: Flavored Soda Water

Instead of cracking open a can of Mountain Dew or Coke try substituting it out with a flavored soda water. I have always love carbonated drinks. I would drink 1-3 sodas a day. Completely detrimental to my health. When I finally decided to stop and make a change, I was able to quit drinking soda by switching to soda water. Turns out all I really wanted was the carbonation in the drink and not all the sugar and other bad ingredients.

Recommend picks: La Croix or Topo Chico
La Croix has a vast number of flavors that are simply delicious.
Topo Chico is the king and capital of flavor town when it comes to soda waters.

Delete: Energy Drinks
Level Up: Green Tea or Coffee

Yes, energy drinks such as Monster and Redbull may have a large amount of caffeine in them, but do you know what the other ingredients are? Probably not, which means you’re on the same boat as the vast majority of people. Switch out that energy drink with a green tea or a cup of coffee. It will provide you with that same caffeine energy boost, but from a natural source and not artificially made.

Delete: Potato Chips
Level Up: PopCorners or Homemade Toasted Pita Bread

PopCorners are a relatively new chip to the market. They are chips made from corn. Their chips are made of simple ingredients, are crunchy, and satisfy that chip craving without the guilt. My favorite PopCorner is made up of only three ingredients: yellow corn, sunflower oil, and sea salt. That’s it!

Homemade Toasted Pita Bread provided that same addictive crunch of a potato chip, and they are oh so easy to make. All you have to do is cut up pita bread into triangles, coat them with some nonstick olive oil spray, add some spices of your choosing (maybe some salt, pepper, garlic powder) and then bake them in the oven for around 13 minutes at 400 degrees F. Once they are done you can dip them into some hummus or guacamole to take the flavor to the next level.

Delete: Cookies
Level Up: Trail Mix

Cookies are my absolute kryptonite. However, they provided zero nutritional value. Swap out those cookies for some trail mix. Trail mix will have mixed nuts, dried fruit, and dark chocolate. All of which are provide healthy nutrition and energy for your body. Just make sure there is no added sugar or other harmful ingredients if you are purchasing at the store.

Delete: Sour Patch Kids Candy
Level Up: Frozen Grapes

If you haven’t tired frozen grapes, strap in because you’re in for a tasty treat. Each bite is a pop of chilling sweetness or tartness depending on the grape.

Red grape = sweet
Green grape = tart

Delete: Hot Pockets and Pizza Rolls
Level Up: Hard Boiled Eggs, String Cheese, and Beef Jerky

Based on strong evidence and many firsthand experiences, Hot Pockets and Pizza Rolls have caused a plethora of burnt tongues due to its inferno hot filling. Hard boiled eggs, string cheese, and beef jerky are all less hassle and provided nutritious protein that will keep you full longer.

Last, but not least. The holy grail. The Master Sword. A real life Senzu Bean…
Delete: Junk Food
Level Up: The OP BAR

The OP BAR is made for gamers, by gamers. It’s unique superfoods + nootropic stack is design to keep you Locked In while gaming.
